Traditional Interior Design of
Modern Mediterranean Style Home in Boca Raton

I have been operating my interior design and home remodeling business for over twenty years, and I have had clients from Ocean Reef Club to Fort Lauderdale, out west to Weston and Parkland, and up to Boca Raton / Palm Beach, but I must say having a blind client has been my most unique experience -

Please click the link to the "Blog Page" and open "Mediterranean Karma" to read about how I created this client's Modern-Mediterranean style home. This home is located in East Boca Raton, Palm Beach County. Keeping the architecture of this room in scale with its thirteen-foot ceilings, I wanted to increase the size of all the moldings. A cost-effective way to do this is by adding a molding below the crown and one above the baseboards, then painting all of the moldings and painting the wall in-between all the same color; we have elegant luxury moldings.

I wanted to create a balance between this space's interior design and architecture. So, I designed two faux Mediterranean arches in the living room with a large custom built-in mirror to bring in the light and color from the intercostal waterway. Then, I matched it in the foyer with the same arch featuring a large arch shell encrusted mirror.
Sometimes, the client doesn't realize how the finishing touches and accessories bring the room together at the end of the design process. Being blind, this client had no interest.

One of the luxury items in this room is the remodeled tray ceiling painted in the Aqua accent color and newly added two-piece matching crown molding. In addition, the ceiling now has a modern nickel/silver linen wallpaper, centered is a custom medallion atop its large Mediterranean wrought iron chandelier.

My interior design style is to maintain balance throughout the residence. In each room, the details related to each other, such as in the case goods the wood finish is a Mediterranean old world driftwood-like finish. The custom sofas and chairs in the living room and family room are modern in style with oversized nickel/silver nailheads.

Some rooms say it all with the "Before" and "After" Pictures - I think this entire home remodel is a splendid example of just that. I was inspired by the stone/bolder looking fireplace with its flanking windows, sunken family room, a border wall, and open family room architecture.

The only lighting this room had was too many high-hat lights, so we removed about a dozen of them during the remodeling process.

In addition, I relocated the existing dining area chandelier to the new piano room. Finally, I purchased a grand Mediterranean style wrought iron light fixture with tall matching sconces to flank the client's artwork to replace it.

I installed a tall matching chandelier in the Family room, centered on the fireplace. Five Mediterranean wrought-iron pendants hang over the kitchen island.

I found the perfect fabric with its large anvil/leaf pattern connected with South West - Indian graphics. The Aqua color coordinates with the rest of the home, and now, instead of Coral, we have Lime Green all on an antiqued background.

I think on a subconscious level, both the fireplace and fabric remind me of the Overlook Hotel from the movie "The Exorcist." I guess I never know where I might get my inspiration.

The existing centerpiece for the table is made out of solid molded metal and takes two people to move it - I designed a matching table runner with coordinating fabrics, rope, and fringe in addition to reupholstering the dining chairs in an accent lime green. The dining and family room rugs share the same color pallets but with two completely different looks.

My inspiration for adding the stone to the existing wall and topping it with the Crema marble top with a wood detail was to give the feeling of an open Mediterranean courtyard - I repeated this detail in the Foyer as well.

The client wanted to keep their existing wall unit; however, I needed to raise it for it to be in-scale with the room. I designed a base for the unit to match the grander baseboards giving us an additional eleven inches of height.

Keeping with the room's architectural scale, I took advantage that the garage and office doors were set into a niche. Therefore, I designed a door frame with crown molding, atop a header to accentuate the scale of the doors, then repeated the detail at every door.
